Associate Professor Suzanne Nielsen (BPharmSc[Hons] PhD MPS) is the Deputy Director of the Monash Addiction Research Centre at Monash University, and an NHMRC Population Health Career Development Fellow. Suzanne is a registered pharmacist with more than 20 years clinical experience working in substance use treatment settings. She has been involved in a series of clinical trials and cohort studies that have explored the long-term outcomes of opioid prescribing for chronic pain and experimental pain studies that have explored pharmacological strategies for pain management in opioid dependent people. Her current research interests include developing novel strategies to reduce opioid-related harm, including understanding how to improve identification and treatment of prescription opioid use disorder, overdose prevention research, and exploring the opioid-sparing potential of cannabinoids.
